Sparkling batting by Madden and Howell sent Old Boys-Nomads away to a living start. Both were dropped before reaching double figures, Madden at square leg and Howell in the slips. However, their batsman ship was anything but iffy, Howell in particular being clear cut and incisive in ms strokemaking.
