Elsa Maxwell’s “Hotel For Women”
A talent known only to a few intimate friends of the world's most famous party-giver is revealed in Elsa Maxwell's "Hotel For Women." which marks the screen debut of the colourful international personality. Elsa and a few of the 20th Cen-tury-Fox studio executives were in a story conference. It ran on for hours. Evenyone grew 1 tense and, 1 tired. Elsa eased the atmosphere by sitting down at the piano and singing a few light, humorous songs to her own .accompaniment. The executives were so impressed that Production Chief Darryl F. Zanuck prevailed upon Elsa to give the fans a taste of this delightful and highly entertaining talent—which had hitherto been enjoyed only by a few of her most intimate friends. Miss Maxwell agreed, and wrote a special song, “Whistle a Little Old Melody,” for the purpose. This Cosmopolitan production features Ann Sothern, Linda Darnell, James Ellison, Jean Rogers, Lynn Bari, June Gale, Joyce Compton, Elsa herself, John Halliday, Katharine Aldridge, Alan Dinehart and Sidney Blackmer. Gregory Ratoff, famed screen comedian, directed the screen play by Kathryn Scola and Darrell Ware, based on a story by Elsa herself and Miss Scola.
