Dairy Output Tops 1938-39
For the first time this season, dairy production, both in respect to butter and cheese, exceeds that for the same period of the 1938-39 season. The Minister for Marketing (Mr • Nash) received telegraphic information to that effect while in Northland. Because of the tendency for a finer wool, shorter in staple, .and tjecause of the very small carry-over from last season, it. was expected that the export of wool for the year will be slightly down. Speaking of the arrangements for the marketing of hides, Mr Nash said that the procedure being worked out had as its object maintenance ns nearly as possible of existing procedure. while avoiding at the same time, any exploitation of producer and consumer. Price 25 Per Cent. Up The minimum price the farmer would receive would be 25 per cent, above that ruling on September 1 last, while, in adition, any net surplus .on export hides for which the Marketing Department received a higher figure would be distributed to the pi-oducer. While thus guaranteed against a price fall, the farmer also would enjoy the advantage of appreciation in values. No farmer, who had studied the war position, would care to make a profit out of the war, Mr Nash said.
