fjTHOUSANDS from all parts of New Zealand visited Waitangi for the celebrations on Tuesday, and a more beautiful day could not have been desired. Many people took advantage of the large old oak trees for shade from the beating sun, while dotted round the reserve Were many picnic parties, and even though many were not .able to see much of the proceedings, they could not help appreciating the beauty of Waitangi and the gorgeous day. ❖ -J * >i: The period costumes of the performers, exact in every detail, reflected great credit on the designer and maker. Miss Molly Cook who is a young Wellingtcnian, but well known in these parts. :*t * * * Her Excellency, Lady Galway, wore a cherry and white patterned frock with a large cherry straw hat, while her daughters, the Hon. Celia, the Hon Isobel and the Hon. Mary Monkton, were all dressed alike in cream summer frocks and creaifi straw hats. # ❖ « Lady Willingdon chose a black and white checked silk suit with a smart black hat, while Mrs Mcßride, from Australia, was in an olive green and white patterned frock, with a small olive green straw hat. :J: $ * Some of the local people seen there were: Mesdames Spencer Day, L. Mrs F. Walton hostessed a very enjoyable 'mah jongg party on Thursday evening. Zinnias of every hue, pink carnations and pink dahlias looked iovely in the blue drawing room and Mrs Walton received her guests wearing a clover silk moquette frock. Some of the guests were: Mrs T. Mitchell, Mrs Cecil C. Tills, Mrs A. R. Ryder, Mrs H. W. Crawford, Mrs D. J. Goodwin, Mrs D. O’Donoghue, Mrs Eric Harrison, Mrs Jack Evans, Mrs John S. Robertson, Mrs A. H. Another hostess on the same evening was Mrs Marsden Woods, who had “bridge” at her home. To receive her guests, Mrs Woods chose a gown of black cloque. Those there were Mr and Mrs Joseph Mackie, Mr and Mrs Archibald, Mr and Mrs W. Porter. $ $ * « * Mrs S. H. Ward, Mrs F. Reynolds, Mrs W. L. Booth left on Wednesday aboard Mr Reynolds’ launch for a cruise to Kawau.
Mrs Arthur Almonds has left for Wellington to visit the Exhibition. * * -V * Mr and Mrs E. A. Simmons have returned home after a motor tour of the North Island. * < < a Miss Marian Reese, of Christchurch, who has been the guest of Mrs A. R. Ryder, is visiting Kerikeri. tf # # * Miss Nina Grocatt, of Auckland, who leaves on March 4 for San Francisco to be married, has been the guest of Mrs Terry Minhinnick. **# , # Nell Ward intends to spend the week-end at her home in Hamilton, while Zoe is accompanying her as far as Auckland. ❖ * * * Mrs A. Summer, of Pokeno, is the guest of Mrs W. H. Millington, of Mairtown. #,* * * Mrs Marsden Woods has left to attend the nurses’ conference in Wellington.
