Control of Public Meetings in Whangarei
Public buildings and reserves in Whangarei are to be closed to meetings likely to cause a breach of the peace. After a full discussion in committee, the Whangarei Borough Council decided upon this policy last night. The course adopted will be in conformity with that already laid down in Wellington and Newmarket. To deal with any application to hold meetings in either reserves or the Town Hall, a committee comprising the Mayor (Mr W. Jones), deputymayor (Mr J. W. Parkin) and Crs. D. J. Thomson and L. Reynolds was appointed. The council already has effective control of any meeting held in borough streets.
