Hertzog, Malan, To Fight For Republic
CAPETOWN, January 28
General Hertzog and Dr. Malan have issued a statement concerning the United Opposition, which they have formed in the Assembly.
It will be known as the Reunited Nationalists, or Peoples’ Party.
Members are said to be convinced' that a republican government, separate from Britain, is most suitable to the traditions and .aspirations of South Africa, and the only effective guarantee that the country will not again be drawn into Britain’s wars. The new party sets itself to remove .all obstacles preventing South Africa from becoming a republic.
