First Striped Marlin of Season Landed
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WHANGAROA, This Day.
The launch Wanderer II returned to Whangaroa today with the first striped marlin of the 1940 season.
The fish, which weighed 2661b5, was hooked by Mr Mac Tindale, of Hotel Marlin.
Mr Tindale also caught the first black marlin this season. That fish weighed 7961b5.
The striped marlin was hooked at 4 p.m. yesterday and brought to the gaff at 5.30 p.m. after giving a wonderful display. Captain Myles Anderson, of the Wanderer 11, a local boat, has now brought in this season’s first of each species of big-game fish—mako shark, black and striped marlin. While out, the party spotted a turtle, which they estimated would scale lOOOlbs.
