Recruiting Lull In Whangarei Area
Only two enlistments for the Third Echelon of the Second Expeditionary Force were received from the Northland area at the Whangarei Army Office yesterday.
Whether the depressing effect of the weather is responsible for this dearth in recruiting can only be surmised, but yesterday’s’ ’response to the recruiting appeal was the poorest for many weeks.
It is felt, however, that the lull will be only temporary and that the average of the past will be maintained in the' future.
Enlistments yesterday were: Whangarei.—W. Peters (Whangaruru South). Kaikohe.—T., W. J. Matthews (Kawakawa). To replace a man withdrawn from the number of non-commissioned officers for the Third Echelon, E. A. Bowman, of Whangarei, has beert selected, and will go into camp on February 1.
