Smoke Concert
The Fire Brigade Hall was the venue of a smoke concert last Friday night, when members of the Hikurangi Volunteer Fire Brigade farewelled one of their number, Mr Frank O’Callaghan, who has enlisted with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. At the same function an open invitation, as guests of the evening was extended to four other young men of Hikurangi, who had joined the Colours. The chairman of the Hikurangi Town Board (Mr R. Nesbitt) presided. He spoke briefly on the sacrifice the young men -were making, and wished each on behalf of all present Godspeed and a safe return. The gathering was well attended, and several toasts were honoured.
To demonstrate that these young men will not be forgotten on entering camp, a much larger function will be tendered them when leaving Hikurangi from final leave.
