Pilot Fined For Breaking Air Regulations
[ per Press Association. Copyright 3 TIMARU, This Day. Fines totalling £ls were imposed on Walter Robert Willmott for offences arising out of an aeroplane crash near Pleasant Point on October 31 last, when he appeared in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court. He was fined £5 on each of three charges— flying an unregistered aircraft, carrying passengers when his license did not entitle him to do so, and flying an aircraft which had not been certified as airworthy. On a further charge of flying an aircraft before repairs had been inspected and a certificate obtained he was convicted without penalty. Heavy Penalties The magistrate, Mr H. Morgan, said the regulations had been in force since 1933, and the penalties provided for six months’ gaol or a fine of £2OO or both. Senior-Sergeant D. J. Hewitt said Willmott had been very frank. In a statement he said there was no excuse for carrying passengers without a license, although he did not charge fares. The passengers wdre members of his own family. The other three breaches were due to ignorance and misapprehension.
