Further details of the North Sea battle showed that several light cruisers were included in the German Jiaval force, while the British had the assistance of a tdrpedo flotilla. Learning that their presence was known to the British, the. enemy ships made full speed for home, passing northwards of the Netherlands islands. The cruiser sunk was the Blucher. The creio numbered 885, and. of these , 123 were known to have been saved.
British casualties were slight. The battleship Neio Zealand was one of the vessels engaged. The entire Turkish air fleet ivas reported to have gone down with a steamer which Russian warships sank in the Black Sea. The village of Saint Georges was the objective of a big conflict between the Allies and the Germans, but neither side had. been able to secure a footing. Sir George Reid, a London report stated, rvas delighted with the Australian and New Zealand troops. Their presence in Egypt, he said, was working even a greater effect than if they were in the fighting line.
