Electric Car Boom Forecast
Cars driven by electricity may for the first time be popularised because of the petrol rationing. Lord Austin, Lord Nuffield and Lord Perry are among the motor car magnates who, it is said, will enter the industry. This would remove one of the chief difficulties —the high initial cost —because mass-production methods could be introduced.
There are at present only about 5000 electric vehicles on the road. Their radius is limited to about 35 miles on each charge of the batteries. The distance difficulty will probably be overcome by a new dual power system using petrol and electricity, which is claimed to cover astonishing distances on a gallon of petrol.
