Germans’ Tip-And-Run Raids
LONDON, December 21
The Germans have renewed their patrol activity on the Western Front, especially in the River Saar district. The new tactics consist of tip-and-run raids, by parties ranging from about 30 to 160 men.
Several of these raids have taken place in the past 24 hours on> a wide front between the Moselle and the Vosges. No attempts have been made to seize positions, but in some cases there have been lively clashes between French and German infantry, some of these resolving themselves int hand-grenade duels. The German official news agency says there has been increased patrol activity due to a spontaneous desire of officers and soldiers to locate the British positions for which a particularly warm welcome is being prepared. Siegfried Line Extension The Paris war communique reports patrol activity on either side of the Ss3'* A German High Command communique states that there was slightly more intensive local artillery activity on the Western Front and claims that a French reconnaissance plane was brought down near the frontier. The Siegfried Line is undergoing an extension eastwards along the Rhine, las far as Lake Constance, _ on the north-eastern frontier of Switzerland.
