As from this morning motor spirit throughout New Zealand is costing an extra halfpenny a gallon'. This announcement was made last night by a representative of the oil companies.

It was stated that full details of the companies’ increased costs had been submitted to the Department of Industries and Commerce, who had approved the increase. The requisite amending regulations were gazetted last night, and took effect immediately. The increase is stated to be entirely the result of higher f.o.b. costs, freight and war risk insurance.

The Wellington retail price for super grade petrol will, now be 2/55 a gallon, and for standard grade 2/45.

The same rates will rule in Auckland. and higher rates in country districts.
