Northland Dairying Has Boom Period
Northland dairy production is reaching a record level.
Almost record* daily figures are being recorded, and production is well ahead ■ of that set by this time last year.
Owing to the heavy growth of feed and recent rains, it is anticipated that the flush will be maintained for a longer period than usual, and considerably longer than last §eason, when in January there was .a rapid decline.
An increase of about 7 per cent, in daily output is reported by the majority of dairy factories, compared with the correspondingmonth last year, while expectations for January are increases of about 10 per cent.
With ■ this greatly increased output, most factories have already overtaken the production figures of. last season, despite ..the adverse period experienced at the commencement of the season.
Nearly a Record. The ‘ Hikurangi Company is now manufacturing 10£ tons of butter daily, which is nearly a record for the company. This figure is 7.7 per cent, ahead of last year, and an increase of 2.2 per cent, on season comparison. In addition, the cream being supplied to all companies is of a high standard, as indicated by the Hikurangf Company report that the November make was all graded superfine. Of the cream now coming in, the same company reports that more than 90 per cent, is grading superfine, and less than 1 per cent, second. Asked his opinion for the cause of the record high standard, the manager (Mr S. J, Wood) said he could not attribute any reason except that suppliers were now taking more care with their cream.
Despite the flush growth of grass, high feed flavours were not apparent.
