Public Respond With Gifts For Soldiers
Gratification at the public response to the appeal for comforts for soldiers is felt bv the Whangarei District Patriotic Committee. The co-operation of the public has been whole-hearted and a large quantity of goods has been despatched to Auckland where 'members of the women's sub-committee will make up parcels for disti’ibution. Contributions from the Whangarei district include:
118 pairs of socks. 44 pairs of pyjamas. 11G puddings. 3100 cigarettes. 107 parcels of sweets. 11G handkerchiefs. GO tooth brushes. 48 packets of chewing gum. Five balaclavas. Shaving sticks. Toothpaste. Cakes. Soap. Writing tablets. Envelopes. Tins of tobacco. Playing cards. Magazines. Safety razor. Arrangements are in hand for the despatch of puddings on December 27 direct to the camps, outlying posts and the air base in the Auckland district. Hitler. —Hitler has left Berlin, presumably to spend a Christmas holiday at Eerchtesgaden.
