Must Mobilise All Resources Of Dominion

[Per Press Association. — Coptyright'l INVERCARGLL, This Day.

“Ninety per cent, of the people of this part of New Zealand believe in the- mobilisation of all resources, wealth ahd manpower, and it will surely eventuate,” declared the Mayor of Invercargill (Mr J, Hanan), at a 'civic farewell to Southland members of the. Special Military Force last night, “The men of, the Special Force have not ;waited or held back in voluntarily offering their services to the nation,” Mr rHanan added.

“They are worthy successors to the Main. Body of New Zealanders who left our shores 25 years ago.

“Their action may offer no material rewards, but they are blazing- a trail which is an inspiration to us -and a shining example to further generations.”

Mr Hanan said that the defeat of Germany would be no easy task, but although the cost might be high, all would hope the peace treaty this time would be signed in Berlin. Maximum Effort Needed If it v/ere signed in London they could safely assume that one of the German prizes of victory would be the incorporation of New Zealand in the Third Reich. ‘.‘Gur part, therefore, must be the maximum effort to subdue the common foe,” he added. “Great sacrifices will have to be made by the people of New Zealand. “Pacifists, Communists and others wl?o appear to act as traitors should, and I think will, be dealt with more firmly than in the last war.”
