French Offers To Italy
NEW YORK, December 19,
The French Ambassador to Rome (M. Andre Francois-Poncet) has returned to Rome from Paris. The Rome correspondent of the “New York Times” says it is reported that M. Francois-Poncet brought an offer from the French Government to lease Djibouti, the port in French Somaliland, from which a railway connects Addis Ababa with the Red Sea, for 90 years, and to grant Italy a further concession in Tunis and also a large block of shares in the Suez Canal.
It should be pointed out that there is no ostensible reason why France should make any proposals now, but M; Francois-Poncet certainly brought some message, which it is hoped, will further friendly relations.
