Want Grant For “Botched Relief Job”
For some lime tne practically impassable state of the Tokatoka-Manga-pai roacl has been exercising the minds of members of the Otamatea County Council.- a The council has been doing its utmost to obtain a Government grant to put the road in order. At Wednesday’s meeting of the council, Mr J. G. Coates advised that a grant of £4OO on a £2 for £1 basis was the best the Government could do. ■ “There is absolutely no chance of my riding doing anything towards this road,” said Councillor A-. Page (ToKatoka).
It was a Public Works Department job in the first place and a poor job at that.
‘lt was a relief works job and a botched one,” said the chairman (Mr R. Coates).
“£IOOO will be necessary to make a proper job of it now,” commented Councillor Page.
It was decided to supply Mr Coates with all relevant information and to include a financial statement of the Tokatoka riding and the county as a whole.
