How To Increase Production In Northland
The difference between Northland and other parts of the Dominion in relation to the proposal for increased production next year was commented upon ,at a meeting of the Whangarei District Council of Primary Production last evening.
It was stated that it was realised Northland presented problems different from those of other parts of the Dominion.
While the proposal to bring in large areas of undeveloped land by modern machinery methods might be suitable in other districts, the Whangarei council was of the opinion that the most economical method for increasing production in Northland was by the further development of existing farm lands.
Further clearing, ditching, rush removing and similar work, if carried out at an economical figure well within the capacity of the farmer to pay, would rapidly increase potential production.
z Thisi scheme, it was believed, would not entail such large capital expenditure for new sheds and cottages which were an essential part of any development scheme for bringing in large new areas.
If it receives the support of the National Council, the Whangarei council proposes to undertake a survey of Northland to ascertain the amount of work that can be carried out under the scheme .and to what extent the special machinery of other Government departments can be utilised for the purpose.
