Kawakawa Xmas Holidays.
During the Christmas holiday period, the Kawakawa Town Board office will be closed from December 23 to January 4, both days inclusive. IJC $ Jjt Jj* Kawakawa Town Board Overdraft. At the recent monthly meeting of the Kawakawa Town Board, it was decided that arrangements be made for a bank overdraft of £2OO for the period ending March 31, 1940.
Fall From Bicycle. Falling from his bicycle , yesterday afternoon, John Cartwright, 14, of Onerahi, suffered a deep cut on his right knee. He was taken to the Whangarei Hospital the insertion of several stitches was found necessary. Kaikohe State Houses. -oud U? With the arrival of electricity in KaikOhe, the four completed State houses in the town are shortly to be occupied, and the first tenant commenced to move his furniture into one of the houses on Tuesday, Another double-unit dwelling is shortly to be erected in the town by the housing department
Collision on Bridge.
A collision /between two cars on a one-way bridge on the Otaika Road late yesterday afternoon resulted in a passenger in one of the cars, Mrs T. E. Porter, of Maungakaramea, receiving a slight cut on the face. The cars, which were driven by Mr Stanley Ellis, of Hamilton, and Mr T. E. Porter, of Maungakaramea, met head-on, Mrs Porter w.as injured by flying glass from the broken windscreen. ' Neither the drivers nor the other passengers were injured and little damage was done to the cars. \
Maize Growing in Northland. A suggestion was received by the Whangarei District Council of Primary Production at a meeting last evening from Mr. C. W. Boswell, M.P. for Bay of Islands, that the question of maize growing in Northland should be discussed. The council decided to defer consideration of the proposal to enable further information to be obtained and to give Mr. Boswell an opportunity of submitting any facts and figures he might have. * * • *
Barley, Pollard Prices Wanted, While an announcement has been made by the Marketing Department that supplies of barley and pollard at reasonable prices will be made available, it was pointed out at a meeting of the Whangarei District Council of Primary Production last evening that the essential fact-, namely price and the period the price would cover, must be made known immediately if pig production is to be maintained and increased in Northland. * . s « * Services Appreciated. . . Recognition of services given to tennis in Northland was made by the Northland Lawn Tennis Association yesterday when a presentation of a toilet outfit was made to Sergeant F. J.
Philpott, who resigned when he enlisted. In making the presentation, the president (Mr. K. Hayr) extended the best wishes and appreciation of the association to Sergeant Philpott.
