Western Front: Contrasting Communiques
(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON. December 3.
A French communique yeports: Nothing of importance during the night. This contrasts with a German communique, which States: “The enemy is applying himself to entrenching between the Rhine and Moselle, and behaving very carelessly. “In some places enemy entrenching work in South Mandei'n was harassed by our artillery and machinegun fire. “Ihe enemy’s artillery shelled Hamelfcberg and Oberperl, and also Mainsberg castle. There was also increasing harassing fire in other sectors. “Enemy light and medium artillery bombarded between the Moselle and Bueschdorf throughout the day. “Minor fights between German fighting planes and enemy aircraft yielded no result.” The French official morning communique states that there is nothing of importance to report, .according, to a British Official Wireless message.' There have been , some artillery actions.
