Five cottages are being pi’ovided by the Government on behalf of the Waitangi Trust Board, which will be adminstering body anli which, after meeting fixed charges, will be in a position to derive revenue fx*om the buildings. Provision of accommodation of this nature on the historic estate is warmly commended by the touring manager of the Automobile Association (Mr R. E. Champtaloup), who visited Waitangi oxx Saturday. Work of erection is neax-ly completed by the Public Wox*ks Department. During the Waitangi celebrations the cottages will be occupied by official visitors and members of the staff, and jt is possible they will be electrified before that date.
Subsequently they will be available fox* hire to the public, and Mr Champtaloup believes, will be a good revenue producer for the Waitangi Trust Board.
Progressive Spirit
Those responsible are to be complimented upon the progressive spirit displayed in providing up-to-date cabin accommodation," Mr Champtaloup said tc-day.
"In my opinion the cabins will be in great demand by the travelling public, and there also seems a possibility that Northland residents will take advantage of the accommodation offered during the dairying off season. Waitangi is an ideal watering placed’ "Cabins of the type constructed b;y the Public Works Deparment—not too elaborate and yet comfortable and serviceable —have been a paying proposition wherever available,” Mr Champtaloup said. Several of those at Waitangi have two bedrooms, a living room, small kitchen and verandah. It would be possible for two, or perhaps three, families to share a bach if travelling in company.
