Wanted - Xmas Puddings, Gift Packets For Camps
r Special to “Northern Advocate”l AUCKLAND, This Day. In order to provide Christmas gifts for the men of the armed forces, the Mayor of Auckland (Sir Ernest Davis) as chairman of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council has made an appeal to the people of Auckland to provide Christmas puddings and 4000 Christmas packages of uniform content.
It has been decided to nominate the weight of the puddings at 31b each and to ask that each package should include a tin of 35 cigarettes, a tin of toffee, a handkerchief and toothbrush.
It has been requested that all gifts shall be received by December 15. Sir Ernest said that it had been decided to place the scheme on a coordinated basis, and to organise it through the nine patriotic zones in the province.
Two Zone Sections The zones had been grouped into two sections, with Auckland the headquarters for the northern group and Hamilton for the south. Responsibility for collection had been designed as follows: For the camps, stations, etc,, at Papakura, North Shore, outlying areas and the naval and air bases: Zones C (Auckland metropolitan), D (Franklin County), B (Rodney County) and A (Northland). For Hopuhopu Camp: Zones E (South Auckland), F (Rotorua), B (Bay of Islands), H (Thames), and I (Ohinemuri).
