LONDON, September 16,
The Amsterdam correspondent of the United Px’ess says the British Naval authorities arrested two alleged German spies while the vessel Nieuw Amsterdam was off the. Downs.
They also detained a “Jewish refugee who was a proved agent by whose means 1500 tons of copper on board the liner was pur-
chased in the United States,”
The correspondent says the British allege that, although consigned to Dutch firms, the copper was eventually destined for Germany. Thirty-tour members of the ship’s crew were interned. The ship was held up for three and a half days while the passengers were questioned and the cargo examined. Britain obtained from the Netherlands Government an agreement to assume the title to the copper, and to compensate the firms to which ft was consigned.
