Slakes Increased By Whangarei Racing Club
Another organisation to adopt the “business as usual" slogan is the Whangarei Racing Club. Despite the outbreak ol war. the executive committee of the club decided to continue with Us usual programme. and. in addition, to increase the stake-money. - For the hist spring meeting the stake-money totalled £2300. It has been decided to increase this amount to £2300. All members of military forces in uniform are to bo admitted free to the course and enclosure. Improvement Programme. The programme' of improvement at the* course is being continued, and it was reported that a row of trees planted down the back stretch would, when grown, provide a pleasant background for the holds.
Officers officiating in various capacities last year were re-appointed to their respective positions, and 12 new members were ejected. Jletereiice to the deaths of Messrs. 11. W. Crawford and F. Higgle son, Jjolli members of the club for many years, was made by the president (Mr I>. (,;, Husking)-, members standing in silence.
