Rationed Petrol For Licensed Services
Steps are being taken by the Transport Licensing Authority to control issues of petrol to the licensed goods and passenger services. This information was contained in a letter from the District Traffic Officer, Auckland, to the Whangarei Borough Council.
Every user of petrol will be required to obtain a license authorising him to secure petrol and fixing the quantities to be used.
The rationing system will be based on the supplies of petrol available from time to time, and the licensing procedure will be carried out by postmasters.
It is desired, continued the letter, that postmasters be assisted by district advisory committees, which are to be set up in several centres, including Whangarei. Representative Body.
The committee will comprise the postmaster (or chief postmaster) and one representative from each of the following: Transport Department, Railway Department, Automobile Association, local authorities, and carriers’ associations or other users’ interests. The duties of the committee will be to consider any application for permits which may be submitted to it by the postmaster, the letter concluded. As the local authorities’ representative, Mr L. O. Hall, Whangarei town clerk, has been appointed to the Whangarei committee.
