Stock Sales Bring Trouble
There has been some trouble in the past regarding the use of Kensington Park for stock sales.
This was remarked upon by the Mayor, Mr W. Jones, last night, at the Whangarei Borough Council meeting.
In connection with a recent sale fixture at the park, it had been necessary for the council to write to the firm concerned, pointing out that application for use of the ground had
| not been made through the proper channel. Acted in Good Faith. Understanding that the control of the ground rested with the Whangarei A. and P. Society, the firm had .made application to that organisation. In a letter, the firm stated that it had acted in good faith. It was prepared to pay 3 per cent, on any sale at the park. No permission had been given by the council for the holding of the sale, said Mr Jones.
Application should be made in the first instance to the council. which would then approach the A. and P. Society and the Racing Club, as these bodies also share the administration of the property. It was agreed that a committee, consisting of the Mayor and Crs. L. Rej'nolds, D. J. Thomson and H. N. James, chairmen of standing committees, should convene a meeting of interested parties and submit a recommendation. to the council concerning the future of the park for stud sales.
