Australians Rush of to Enlist

SYDNEY, This Day,

Thousands of men of all ages gathered at the Victoria Military Barracks yesterday, desiring to enlist for military duty. Officials were compelled to inform applicants that there is at present no call for general service, but former ex-servicemen wore invited to join the army reserve through the Returned Soldiers’ League. A similar eagerness to serve is reported in other States. The examination of all visiting vessels is no wbeing carried out at all ports.

A shot was fired across the bows of a coastal vessel entering Port Phillip, Victoria, this morning.
