Germany To Be Blockaded?
The Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” says information, although not confirmed, is reaching United States officials that Britain has ordered a naval blockade of Germany, blacking the entrance to the Baltic Sea near the Skagerrak and stretching across the North Sea near the Scandinavian Peninsula. All the Arab leaders throughout Syria have declared their loyalty to France, says a despatch from Beirut. 'They state that they are ready to serve.
Slovakia, whose, army numbers 300,000, has proclaimed a declaration of war against Poland, says the Bratislava correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. British planes have been active against the German navy, and have inflicted heavy damage from bombing operations. . Reports to this effectwere received at noon today. Prom Berlin it is reported that two Polish submarines and a cruiser have been sunk.
Warsaw has issued a proclamation urging all former residents of Czechoslovakia to fight against the oppression of the swastika and to sabotage the German war machine.
A division of 25,000 ex-Czechs is being formed. Neither in Poland nor in Britain are residents of what was formerly Czechoslovakia to be regarded as enemy aliens. An Independent Cable Service message states that Dr, Benes, former Czech President, ip a message to Mr. Chambrlain said: “At the moment when the British pepole are obliged to wage war imposed on Poland. Great Britain and France by Nazi Germany, I wish to express my deep and unalterable feelings of sympathy and the desire and decision of the Czechs and Slovaks to join yonr people in this struggle for a free Europe.
“We Czechoslovak citizens consider ourselves being also l at war with the German military forces, and we shall march with yonr people till final victory and the liberation of our Fatherland.”
