£266 Damages Against King
Damages totalling £266 17/8 were awarded against His Majesty the King in a reserved decision given by Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court to-day. Plaintiff was Anthony Wilfred Porter, of Whangarei, who had claimed £l2l 13/- special damages and £l5O general damages from His Majesty the King for personal injuries suffered as a result of a collision with a Government motor car, driven by Joseph Frank Lawson.
In delivering his decision the magistrate dealt with the circumstances surrounding the accident and said he did not think Lawson had used sufficient caution in view of the time and place.
Judgment was given for the full amount claimed, with the exception of two minor deductions which left a “Is spring cleaning considered aid £3 15/- court costs, £23 15/6 solicitors’ fees and £2 4/- witnesses’ expenses.
