Unsettled And Showery— Special Forecast

Unsettled and showery, with hail and sleet at times. Very cold temperatures, South-easterly winds, moderate to strong. Rough seas on the East Const. The last of the present series of disturbances is now moving oil the Dominion and conditions will commence to improve gradually.

Better Weather for August

The' “Advocate’s” special meteorologist, Mr. H. M. Vincent, supplied the following special forecast for August: Improved conditions; conditions will improve considerably early in the month, and there .'will be several, fine, bright days during the first week, with very cold nights, and hard frosts inland. A storm from the north-east during the second week will bring heavy rain, followed by a renewal of boisterous, westerly weather with frequent showers. The month on the whole, however, will show an improvement on the conditions ruling in July.

Hail Breaks Ahipara Windows. On Thursday morning one of the severest hail storms over experienced in the district occurred at Ahipara. Accompanied by severe electrical disturbances, hailstones the size of birds’ eggs dashed to the ground in great showers. The ground was whitened immediately, and the hillsides were covered in a mantle of white. The

stones lay in sheltered places until after mid-day. As a result of the storm. 1!) panes of glass in the windows of the recently-completed school building were smashed. The weather remains cold and stormy.
