Ladies’ Gardening Club
1 The members of the Ladies’ Garden- ' ing Club spent a pleasant afternoon on : Monday at the Masonic Temple. It was members’ day and Mrs J. H. Nicholls was in charge of the pro-
gramme, which was as varied as it was interesting.
Mrs G. Woolley led the community
singing, which was followed by a short talk by Mrs Nicholls on the growing of polyanthus and carnation from seed. Mrs Finch continued with a demonstration of pruning and re-potting of indoor plants including ferns, their food requirements and general management. Mrs Given’s talk on Iceland poppies, anemone and jazz violets, during this trying season, was appropriate. I Mrs Inkster amused Lie members I with her “fairy story which came j true,” proving it by producing a
beautiful bunch of native maidenhair fern. In conclusion, Miss Cl ai'ke-Walker gave a vivid description of a holiday spent in Ceylon, introducing the. subject of coconut gi’owing and the preparation of the raw product for'market. r Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames N. Brown, Haden, Tubb, Jamieson, Long and Johnson.
