Life In The Air Force
By “Caxton ”
BOOKS
Pilots’ Summer, by Squadron Leader Tredrey (Duckworth, 8/G) is different from the usual run of aviation stories. It is a sort of diary of life in the Royal Air Force, without the dull intrusion of insignificant personal details. It is of interest to everyone, because it takes every reader behind the scenes and turns on the light in corners that often escape attention. It is of special merest to those who are keen upon aviation and thinking about an air force career, as ft conducts its readers step by step through three months’ training at a central flying school. The author was an instructor. The account is animated and fascinating. It; takes in the whole round of life, including the mess, of which there is a highly amusing description. The -ground training, athletics,,and fitness culture are noted. What there is to be learned about the machines, and the variety of flying manoeuvres, are things well described, and full page reproductions of photographs contribute a valuable quota to a vivid and informative story.
