The largest air raid precaution black-out yet held has been arranged for from midnight to 4 o’clock in the morning of August 10, covering half of England, including London, the Midlands and the South-East. All householders have been asked to sit up to ensure that windows are adequately screened. Motorists have been requested to keep off the roads. Royal Air Force planes will fly over the darkened areas, searching for the glimmer of lights. Strict wartime conditions will prevail. and anti-aircraft units will be manned. A two months’ test of the balloon barrage will commence on Saturday. Five hundred balloons and 600 men will be engaged. The first 500 naval militiamen are being called up on August 16. The Admiralty has decided to take 12,000 militiamen each year. In Berlin a full-dress air raid precaution practice lasting four days, during which the city will remain on a war footing, started this afternoon.
