Special Awards at Exhibition
The following special awards have been made in connection with the annual Winter Exhibition of the Whangarei A. and P. Society, held recently;— Bacon Section. National Bacon Pig Championship and ‘‘Cyclone” challenge silver rose bowl, with miniature: W. H. Running, Taranaki. Second prize and “Progress Meal" challenge cup and miniature: A. T. Regers, Ngaruawahia. Third prize and silver modal: D. and S. Ross, Te Puke. “Bal Vita” challenge rose bowl and miniature for bacon carcase scoring highest points and owned by member of any pig club: W. H. Running. “Vesta” Battery challenge cup to the association conducting the provincial section, the entries from which gained the highest average points as bacon carcases: South Auckland. “Northern Advocate” special prize for exhibitor who bred his entries and gained most places out of first seven; D. and S. Ross. “Hellaby” challenge cup for bacon carcase scoring highest points, made from pig registered or eligible for registration: A. T. Rogers. Silver provincial championship medal and “Tomoana” trophy for carcase from the eight provincial areas scoring most points in entries from that particular province; Taranaki, W. H. Running; Northland, Ambury’s Ltd.; South Auckland, A. T. Rogers; Waikato, R. D. Fisher; South Island, J. Page; Manawatu, R. Webb; East Coast, Miss G. Breen; Bay of Plenty, D. and S. Ross.
Farm Section. Hannam memorial trophy and White Island Products cup for most points in farm and garden sections: W. E. Dyer, 231 points. Special prize for 12 field carrots: H. C. Hardcastle. Challenge Phosphate Company’s special for 12 field turnips: H. A. Hawken. Wright Stephenson and Company’s special for 12 mangolds: W. E. Dyer. Special prize for 12 farm swedes: W. E. Dyer. Special for six maize cobs; J. T. Teesdale. Garden Section, Challenge rose bowl (presented by Mr H. C. Hardcastle) for collection of vegetables: W. E. Dyer. Special for 12 carrots: E. L. Dyer. W. S. Lewisham trophy for onions and parsnips: G. Creamer. Special for six table turnips: Mrs N. C. Millington. G. Sinclair special for champion onions: W. E. Dyer. G. Sinclair special for champion pumpkin: W. E. Dyer, O’Leary Bros, and Downs’ trophy for champion seed potatoes: F. G. Watson. O’Leary Bros, and Downs’ trophy for champion marrow: F. G. Watson. Fruit Section. E. Sands’ trophy for most points in citrus section: F. R. Ellin, 18 points. Honey Section. Special for most points in open classes; F. D. White, 31 points. Special for most points in Northland Beekeepers’ Association classes: F. D. White, 40 points. Special for most points in classes open to owners of 15 hives and under: J. Gavin, 22 points.
Preserves. Silver modal for most points in preserved fruit section; Mrs H. J. Hirst, 29 points. Messrs Whittome, Stevenson’s trophy for mixed pickles: Miss J. Chisholm. Ltd. trophy for lady’s nightdress: Mrs D. Barrett. Special, in memory of the late Mrs D. Pi. Mannering, for collection of infant's woollies: Mrs L. C. Chappell. Flower Section. Simmons shield for most points in flower section: Mrs W. W. Logan, 91 points. Special for most points in pot plant classes: Mrs W. W. Logan, 28 points. Special for most points in cut flower classes: Mrs R. M. Campbell, 22 points. Special for most points in decorative classes: Mrs W. W. Logan, 49 points. Special for most points in children’s classes: Shirley Drummond.
