Anglo-Japanese Talks Postponed: A Deadlock Feared
(Received 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, July 17. \ 'J'HE TALKS BETWEEN BRITAIN AND JAPAN HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL WEDNESDAY, BECAUSE SIR ROBERT CRAIGIE HAS NOT RECEIVED NEW INSTRUCTIONS FROM LONDON. British official circles in Tokio denied to-day that the Tientsin . talks were foredoomed to failure, although there is not much optimism for success, since neither party is prepared to give ground, says the Independent Cable Service, | The Japanese are reported to be claiming that Tientsin is not British, but Chinese, and that the British usurped Chinese sovereignty.
