NORTHLAND TRIBE
“Advocate” Office, Water Street, Whnngarei, Tuesday, July 18. 1939. Hello. Everybody! The wanderer has returned, and just as I expected, he did get stuck in the mud, and brought a large slice hack with him. Apparently it took quite a lot of spade-work to get him out, too; and spade-work in; the cold at 2 a.m. isn’t the most enjoyable pastime. But there the mud—a slip in this case—and there was Kupe and the office car. Bed w’as a long way off, and that was that. lie was full of excited stories again, but I had my share to relate, for this week Postie brought me a real treasure trove. Hey, presto! Our funds have passed the £l5O mark. Needless to say. Headquarters is full of rejoicing. Even the S.P. caught the general excitement and gurgled loudly—he’s a very row’dy person these days. Hikurangi has taken another leap, and several new hapusi have entered our lists, so altogether things are happening. The only thing that w’on’t happen is the S.P.’s third “toof.” It’s been sitting just under cover for goodness knows how long, and won’t poke out. The S.P. gets very annoyed about it at times, too. Kupe returned with a touch of ’flu, and apparently wirelessed a “cold bug” before he left the North, so very sneezily I’ll say— Cheerio till next week. Princess, Northland Tribe.
