The death has occurred of Admiral Sir Roger Backhouse, reports a London cable.
Aircraftsman (Ist class) R. W. Pullman, of the Hobsonville Air Base, is spending his semi-annual leave with his mother, Mrs C. W. Pullman, of Matapouri.
It is revealed that Mr Raymond Massey, actor and producer, who was divorced on July 7 from Adrienne Allen, film actress, was secretly married at New York three days later to a society woman, Mrs William D. Whitney.
Sir Apirana and Lady Ngata, accompanied by Mr P, K. Paikea, M.P., passed through Whangarei by service car, en route to Wellington, yesterday. They had spent some time in the Bay of Islands district, arranging Centennial matters and other questions relating to the Maori race.
Mr E. B. Glanville, Instructor in Agriculture at Whangarei, left today for Hamilton, where he is to attend the annual winter school of farm management at Ruakura State Experimental Farm.
