Senior Teams Default In Bay Games

With the inter-club competition drawing- to a close in the Bay of Islands, a number of players in the senior grade have lost interest, with ,the result that both the Kawakawa and Otiria teams defaulted on Saturday, to Motatau and Ohaeawai respectively. Results of the remaining senior game and the only two junior games to be played are as follows: Seniors.—Ruataniwha G, Kaikohe 6. Junioi's. —Kaikohe 12, Okaihau 3; Moerewa 3, Maromaku 0. Rwataniwha Draw With Kaikohe On Saturday, the Ruataniwha team played the best game of its career to draw with the Kaikohe fifteen. The former team, which is having its first season in Bay Rugby, turned on exceptionally good football, and throughout the’ first half kept the Kaikohe players on the move. The game commenced at a fast pace, and good back movements frequently drew applause from the small band of spectators, to whom the game was a fine exhibition of solid and clean Rugby.

The half-time score was 3-all, but this was by no means an indication ot territorial play, as Ruataniwha had Kaikohe in difficulties on several occasions. In the second half, the game continued at a very fast pace, with Kaikohe appearing to win the bigger share of the leather. Both teams obtained a score and a penalty kick, and the game ended in a draw—G-all. Scorers for Ruataniwha were Atiteroroe and Rapateni, while Rogers and Webster scored for Kaikohe. Exciting Play In Junior Benefit Match The Okaihau-Kaikohe junior game, which was played on the Kaikohs Recreation ground, was a special benefit for the relatives of the late A. S. Jones, who was killed while playing in a game at Okaihau last month. The game was played at a fast pace, and was a fine exhibition of team co-

operation. Kaikohe forwards excelled themselves, and led many successful attacks, some of which were finalised by good back movements. During the first half, Okaihau had the wind behind them, and this helped Sigley to go over for the team's first and only score. The half-time score was levelled by P. Smith, who converted a good penalty just before the change-over. With the wind behind them in the second half, Kaikohe played solidly, and R. Yorko, J. Smith and J. Roll inson followed one another over the line in quick succession. The game ended in a victory for Kaikohe by 12 points to 3. Mr P. Dare refereed.
