Britain To Use Czech Gold Assets

LONDON, July 13,

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, made a statement in the House of Commons at question time regarding plans for the settlement of claims against Czech assets blocked in London by legislation passed in the spring. He said the intention was to draw up a scheme for using the assets as a set-off against British claims.

The scheme, which would be submitted to the House when it reassembled after the recess, would provide for the repayment to the Treasury of £6,000,000 advanced to the former Czechoslovakian Government, and for the use, for the benefit of Czech refugees, of the unexpended balance of a free gift of £4,000,000, added Sir John. % would also provide for dealing with the claims of British holders.
