Gallops At Ellerslie
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. This Day. Although the going on No. 3 grass track at Ellerslie was very heavy, there were more than usual on it this morning. Several youngsters were also sprinted on the -wo-year-old track, and acquitted themselves very satisfactorily. On No. 3 grass, Bisquit shaded Beverley and Summary at the end of half a mile run in 54 3-ss. They covered the last three furlongs in 41s. and all could have done better. Tilliarch and Pailmint reeled' off three furlongs in 39 l-ss. It was the first sprint that they had had for some months, and they went well. Valbern was also sprinted three furlongs, which she covered in similar time. This filly possesses plenty of speed but so far has not reproduced it in her races. Mahala was given a workout over six furlongs, but was not timed. This mare will complete her qualifications as a hunter today, Sebrof and Imperator were doing a shade better than Miss Appellant and Loyal Grant at the conclusion of three furlongs in 39 3-ss. Sebrof and Imperator have come on a good deal during the last few weeks. Valpear was going very easily throughout six furlongs, which he traversed in 1.24 3-5, He is looking in first-rate condition for the new season. On the sand, Reynu did strong work over a couple of rounds, being timed to run his last six furlongs in 1.26 4-5. Over the latter distance Thrust registered 1.7 2-5. On the two-year-old track, the filly by Pink Coat from Helen’s Gold in W. J: McLean’s stable, sprinted a furlong in 13s. She hit out very well. She trotted round and repeated the performance, taking 13 3-ss. Startford, Golden Bonnet and Red Warden were allotted a similar task, taking 14 4-ss. They did their work very evenly and had a good deal in reserve. Ringshot was the only horse schooled, jumping a couple of pony hurdles twice. He gave a satisfactory exhibition.
