Traffic Patrols at Check-up at Hotels’ Closing Time

[Per Press Association. Copyright .l CHRISTCHURH, This Day. As part of its campaign to reduce accidents, the city traffic department’s check-up at hotels has established a system of patrols under which a checkup is made nightly at city and suburban hotels as closing time approaches. The chief traffic inspector, Mr J. Bruorton, said yesterday that every evening, particularly on Saturdays, the department was having a check-up

outside hotels. The check-up embraced both motorists and cyclists leaving hotels, cyclists were included, as it was a tact that there were numerous drunken cyclists who caused trouble. Inspectors engaged in the checkingup process were instructed to make sure that motorists or cyclists were in a fit condition to take to the road, added Mr Bruorton. The measure was being taken to reduce road accidents, and encourage road users not to take unnecessary risks.
