Rumania Ready For Emergency
(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 22. The British United Press Bucharest correspondent says that after , the calling up of reservists 500,000 will be under arms. The streets are alive with fully equipped troops. The army has requisitioned many taxis and thousands of cart horses.
The Rumanian Prime Minister, Dr. Calmescu, issued a statement substantially similar to the communique issued yesterday. , He added that he hoped to demobilise in ten or fifteen days if Rumania’s neighbours did.
The measures taken would not interfere with economic activity.
A later communique stated that there was no reason for alarm. The Government was optimistic. The situation had improved compared with three days ago. The Grand Council of the Front of National Rebirth is being summoned on Monday to hear the Government declaration.

He represents in Rumania the Ger- ) man Dye Trust and the German con- . i trolled Soya Bean Company. - In the House of Commons, Sir Samuel Hoare, on behalf of Mr Chamberlain, answered questions on trade negotiations with Rumania. He said that Rumania has officially denied receiving any ultimatum from Germany. ;■ At the same time, the uncertainty of the present situation was causing Rumania to take certain precautionary measures. The German mission had returned to Berlin.
