Threat To Lithuania Itself
(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON. March 22
The situation at Kaunas is stated to be serious, says an Independent Cable Service message from Warsaw. Despite the cession of Memel, German pressure on Lithuania is continuing. Tire talk between Herr von Ribbentrop and M, Urbsys is stated to have
become heated, the former demanding immediate submission of Lithuania. Reuter’s correspondent at Kaunas says the German Note to Lithuania is understood to have declared that the situation in Memel might have led to unrest, necessitating the intervention of German troops.
Life between Germans and non-Ger-mans in Memel had become impossible. added the Note, which gave the principle of self-determination as the basis of the German demands. There are German cruisers and submarines off the Memel coast, says a message from Copenhagen.
