Kerikeri Cruising Pennant Thrill
Two sailing races were held at .an enjoyable picnic of the Kerikeri Cruising Club. Single handed the captains sailed their craft in the skippers’ race, won by the Ida (Mr Gordon Mackereth).
Bob Stay Carries Away.
Later in the day, the final event in the-championship series was sailed Off.
Great interest centred around this race for the reason that after ,a season of close races and distributed successes, there were several candidates for the trophy. The yacht Ida led over a great part of the course, but, in a tense moment near the finish, a bob stay carried away and Mr Mark Waters’ boat Lancia slipped past to take the race and the club’s pennant. Ida wins the club’s handicap pennant.
The two final trophies to be competed for, arc the Te Tii Cup donated by Mr Matthews, of Te Tii, and a cup presented by the Okaihau members of the club for a cruising race. The course for this latter event will be from the club house at Jones’s Bay, to Russell.
