EXIT THE FLY.
Hollywood is responsible for the newest idea in ridding the house of flies. During the filming of “Gateway,” the 20th Century-Fox production starring Don Ameche and Arleen Whelan, numerous scenes were laid aboard an ocean liner. Houseflies have no business in the middle of the ocean /and in the interests of realism one j man was assigned to “swat ’em.” The business of expunging the meddlesome moscas had its hazards in breaking glassware and dishes ... or soiling linen and drapes. So the ingenious technician snagged his prey with the business end of a vacuum cleaner—neatly, deftly and efficiently.
The second Hal Roach feature for United Artists (the first being “There Goes My Heart.”) is “Topper Takes a Trip." with Constance Bennett, Roland Young. Billie Burke and Alan Mowbray, the director being Norman Z, McLeod.
