Northland Dairy Production Down; Revenue Up
Production at the Hikurangi Dairy Company’s factory has shown a steady decline for some time, and it is estimated that this season will show a 10 per cent reduction of. output as compared with last season.
1 The pastures in the area from which this company draws its main supply have been adversely affected by the lack of rain, and the farm labour shortage is also acute in this 'area, so that fewer cows are being milked. Fer February, supplies reached a total of £21,359, as compared with the corresponding period last season, when £22,689 was paid to suppliers. For the season to date, £160,601 has been paid out, against £157,463 last Maungatapere.
A decline in production for Februseason, which is an increase of £3138, ary is shown in the returns of the Maungatapere Dairy Comp'any, the output this season amounting to 126 tons, as compared with 132 tons. For the season to date, 975 tons of butter have- been manufactured, as compared with 1005 for the same period of last sdason. An increase is shown in Ihe amount paid to suppliers for this season as compared with last season, the figures being £103,930 as compared against £93.677. Waipu Increase, The Waipu Dairy Comp'any will be paying to suppliers £6334 3or the month, which is £9OO more than for the same month last season. Suppliers to the Whangarei factory will receive £30,313 as compared with £27,502 for the same month last season. The company has this year paid out £228,649 to suppliers, compared with £203,941 for the same period last season.
JpOR unlawfully dispensing morphine,
a dangerous drug, Benjamin Conant O'Connor, a chemist, was fined £l2/10/- by Mr. F. W. Stilwell, S.M., at Wellington yesterday, and was also fined a similar amount for failing to make the required entries in a register. Three charges of failing to comply with the regulations in dispensing a dangerous drug and two other charges were adjourned.
