Personal Pars
Born in County Donegal, Ireland, on St. Patrick’s Day in 1830, in the reign of William IV., Mr Patrick Lucas Hamilton, who resides a short distance from Pleasant Point, Timaru, yesterday celebrated his 109th birthday. Mr Hamilton can probably lay claim to being the oldest inhabitant of the Dominion, and one of the oldest in the Empire. Yesterday Mr Hamilton was the recipient of numerous congratulatory letters and telegrams from all parts of the world.
Mr. Cyril Peat (“Mick”), late of the Whangarei High School, has just been advised that he passed the examination for civil engineering, and is now an associate member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (London), A.M.I.p.E. Previously he gained the degree of Bachelor of Engineering. He is at present assistant engineer with the Public Works Department in railway construction work on the KaikouraBlenheim section in the South Island.
