Prague Jews’ Sad Awakening; Hitler’s Triumph Spells Misery
(Received 1.0 p.m.)
PRAGUE, March 16,
jpiFTY THOUSAND JEWS IN PRAGUE, WHO WENT TO BED IN BOHEMIA, WOKE TO FIND THEMSELVES IN GERMANY, AND ARE DESPERATELY SEEKING AVENUES OF ESCAPE.
It is estimated that there are at least 250.000 Jews in Czechoslovakia,
The plight of those in Slovakia is almost as bad as in Bohemia, since the Hlinka Guard is fanatically anti-Semitic.
It is believed that, though 50,000 have been preparing to leave since Munich, only a small proportion was enabled to secure British or other funds, while the numbers were swollen by refugees from Austria.
In addition, thousands of Sudeten Social Democrat Germans in Bohemia are facing a terrible fate.
